Rich, creamy mashed potatoes elevated with the nutty flavor of browned butter, perfect for holiday gatherings or cozy dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, warmed
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh chives or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut the potatoes into evenly sized chunks. Place them in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt.
  2. Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender but not falling apart.
  3. Drain the potatoes in a colander and return them to the hot pot for a minute to evaporate excess water.
  4. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently until it turns golden brown and develops a nutty aroma, about 5 minutes.
  5. Using a potato masher, mash the potatoes until smooth. For ultra-smooth mashed potatoes, pass them through a potato ricer.
  6. Gradually pour in the warmed heavy cream and browned butter, stirring gently to incorporate. Add the minced garlic, if using, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish and sprinkle with freshly chopped chives or parsley. Serve warm.

Notes

[‘Start with cold water to ensure even cooking of the potatoes.’, ‘Generously salt the water for better flavor.’, ‘Warm the cream before adding it to the potatoes to maintain their fluffy texture.’, ‘Watch the butter closely while browning to avoid burning.’, ‘Avoid overmixing the potatoes to prevent them from becoming gummy.’]
