This recipe delivers perfectly crispy and flavorful air fryer French fries with a golden crunch every time, using simple ingredients and an easy method.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium russet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (extra virgin preferred)
  • Sea salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper (optional, to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon cornstarch or arrowroot powder

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel potatoes if desired.
  2. Cut potatoes lengthwise into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick sticks.
  3. Soak cut fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  4. Drain and thoroughly dry fries using paper towels or a clean kitchen towel.
  5. Optional: Toss dried fries with cornstarch or arrowroot powder for extra crispiness.
  6. Drizzle olive oil over fries and toss with sea salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper if using.
  7. Preheat air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  8. Place fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding.
  9. Cook for 15-18 minutes, shaking or tossing halfway through cooking.
  10. Check for doneness; fries should be golden brown and crispy outside, fluffy inside. Add 2-3 more minutes if needed.
  11. Serve immediately for best crunch.

Notes

Soaking the potatoes is essential to remove excess starch and achieve crispiness. Dry fries thoroughly before cooking. Cook in batches to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Optional cornstarch or arrowroot powder helps boost crispiness. Reheat fries in air fryer or oven at 375°F for 5-7 minutes to restore crunch.
