A quick and easy recipe for homemade crispy air fryer french fries seasoned with flaky sea salt, delivering a perfect balance of crunchy outside and soft inside.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large russet potatoes (about 1.5 pounds / 700 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil (30 ml)
  • Sea salt to taste (about 1 teaspoon / 5 grams)
  • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper (a pinch each)

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel the potatoes. You can leave the skin on if you prefer. Cut the potatoes into even sticks about 1/4 to 1/2 inch (6 to 12 mm) thick.
  2. Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours).
  3. Drain the potatoes and dry thoroughly using a kitchen towel or paper towels.
  4. Toss the fries with olive or avocado oil and sprinkle with sea salt and optional seasonings. Mix gently to coat evenly.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Arrange fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding. Cook in batches if necessary.
  7. Cook for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket or flipping fries halfway through for even browning.
  8. Check for doneness; fries should be golden and crispy outside and tender inside. Cook an additional 2-3 minutes if needed.
  9. Sprinkle with a pinch more sea salt immediately after cooking.
  10. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Soaking potatoes removes excess starch for crispiness. Dry potatoes thoroughly before oiling. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Season fries immediately after cooking for best flavor. Keep cooked fries warm in a low oven if cooking in batches.
