  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and blanched
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Cheddar Bay biscuit mix

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Trim the ends of your green beans and blanch them in boiling water for 3-4 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and whisk until it forms a smooth paste.
  4. Gradually pour in 2 cups of milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  5. Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of Old Bay seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder. Mix until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
  6. Add the blanched green beans to the sauce and gently toss until they’re coated. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  7. In a mixing bowl, combine the Cheddar Bay biscuit mix with 1/4 cup of melted butter and 1/4 cup of milk. Stir until it forms a dough. Drop small dollops of the biscuit dough evenly over the green bean casserole.
  8. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuit topping is golden brown and crispy.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
