A delicious combination of crispy, smoky bacon and caramelized Brussels sprouts with a sticky-sweet maple bourbon glaze. Perfect for holidays, family dinners, or any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh Brussels sprouts, halved and trimmed
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a sheet pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare the Brussels sprouts by washing them, removing any damaged outer leaves, and cutting them in half. Place them in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Drizzle the sprouts with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and season with a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Toss well to coat.
  4. Spread the Brussels sprouts evenly on the sheet pan, ensuring they are in a single layer for even roasting. Roast in the oven for 25-30 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they’re golden brown and crispy on the edges.
  5. While the sprouts are roasting, cook the bacon. Place the slices in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until crispy, about 6-8 minutes, flipping occasionally. Remove the bacon and set aside on a paper towel to drain. Reserve 2 tablespoons of bacon grease in the skillet; discard the rest.
  6. To make the maple bourbon glaze, add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter to the skillet with the reserved bacon grease. Melt over medium heat.
  7. Once the butter is melted, add 3 tablespoons of pure maple syrup, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of bourbon. Stir to combine.
  8. Add 2 minced garlic cloves and simmer the glaze for 2-3 minutes, or until it thickens slightly and becomes glossy. Be careful not to let it burn.
  9. Remove the roasted Brussels sprouts from the oven and transfer them into the skillet with the glaze. Toss to coat evenly.
  10. Chop the cooked bacon into bite-sized pieces and sprinkle over the glazed sprouts. Give everything a final toss and serve immediately.

Notes

[‘Don’t overcrowd the pan when roasting the sprouts to ensure they get crispy.’, ‘Use a good-quality bourbon for the glaze.’, ‘Keep an eye on the glaze to prevent burning.’, ‘Adjust sweetness by reducing maple syrup and adding more apple cider vinegar if desired.’, ‘Preheat your oven to ensure crispy, caramelized edges.’]
