These Garlic Butter Mushrooms are a quick and easy side dish that’s bursting with buttery, garlicky, and herby flavors. Perfect for holiday dinners, potlucks, or even as a quick snack.

  • 1 lb button or cremini mushrooms, whole or sliced, cleaned and ready to go
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (or vegan butter for dairy-free option)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 34 cloves garlic, freshly minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Handful of fresh parsley, chopped
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mushrooms: Gently clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a damp paper towel or rinsing them briefly under cold water. Pat them dry and slice if preferred.
  2. Heat the skillet: Place your skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Let the butter melt completely.
  3. Add the garlic: Toss in 3 to 4 cloves of minced garlic. Stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant, but be careful not to burn it.
  4. Sauté the mushrooms: Add the mushrooms to the skillet in a single layer. Let them cook for 4-5 minutes without stirring to allow them to brown nicely.
  5. Season: Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper over the mushrooms. Stir to coat them evenly.
  6. Cook through: Continue cooking for another 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are tender and golden brown.
  7. Add finishing touches: Toss in a handful of chopped fresh parsley and a pinch of red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well and cook for 1 more minute.
  8. Serve: Transfer the mushrooms to a serving dish and enjoy them warm!

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the pan to ensure proper searing. Use fresh garlic and herbs for maximum flavor. If mushrooms release too much water, increase the heat slightly to evaporate the liquid faster.
