A quick and easy honey balsamic chicken recipe featuring a sticky, sweet, and tangy glaze that delivers next-level comfort food perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/4 cup honey (85 grams)
  • 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar (80 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30 ml)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (5 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (1 gram)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional garnish: fresh parsley or thyme sprigs

Instructions

  1. Pat dry the chicken thighs with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. (5 minutes)
  2. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together honey, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, minced garlic, Dijon mustard, and dried thyme until smooth and well combined. Set aside. (3 minutes)
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil to coat the bottom.
  4. Place the chicken thighs skin-side down (or just the first side if skinless) and cook without moving for 5-6 minutes until a golden-brown crust forms.
  5. Flip and cook the other side for 4-5 minutes until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). (10-12 minutes total cooking time)
  6. Reduce heat to medium-low and pour the honey balsamic glaze over the chicken. Spoon the glaze over the pieces, letting it bubble and thicken for 3-4 minutes until thick and sticky. (4 minutes)
  7. Remove the pan from heat and let the chicken rest in the glaze for 2 minutes to soak up the flavor. Garnish with fresh parsley or thyme if desired. (2 minutes)

Notes

Pat chicken dry before cooking to ensure a golden crust. Add glaze only after chicken is mostly cooked to prevent burning. If glaze thickens too much, add a splash of water or balsamic vinegar to loosen. Use medium-high heat for searing and reduce heat when glazing. Let chicken rest in glaze for best flavor. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days; reheat gently in skillet to preserve glaze texture.
