Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 packet (7g) instant yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110Β°F)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce or tomato passata
  • 1 garlic clove, minced (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 6 oz hot Italian sausage, casing removed
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 tbsp honey (runny, for drizzling)
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onions (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir to blend.
  2. Pour in warm water and olive oil. Mix with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms (about 2 minutes).
  3. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if dough sticks.
  4. Cover and let rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes until puffed and airy.
  5. While dough rises, heat a small skillet over medium-high. Add sausage, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook for 5-6 minutes until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  6. Preheat oven to 475Β°F. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven now.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough into a 12-inch round or oval. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet or pizza peel.
  8. Spread pizza sauce evenly over dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella on top.
  9. Distribute browned sausage, crumbled feta, and sliced red onions (if using). Scatter crushed red pepper flakes for extra heat (optional).
  10. Bake pizza for 13-15 minutes (baking sheet) or 10-12 minutes (pizza stone), until crust is golden and cheese is bubbling.
  11. Remove from oven and immediately drizzle honey over hot pizza. Scatter fresh basil leaves if desired.
  12. Let cool for 2-3 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For gluten-free, use almond flour or a gluten-free pizza dough. For vegetarian, swap sausage for spicy chickpeas or plant-based sausage. Drizzle honey while pizza is hot for best results. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 1 month. Reheat in oven or skillet for crispiness.
