A crowd-pleasing appetizer featuring crispy bacon, crunchy water chestnuts, and a sweet, tangy glaze. Perfect for parties or family gatherings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • Thin-cut bacon
  • Canned whole water chestnuts, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup (110g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup (110g) brown sugar, 1/4 cup (60ml) ketchup, 2 tablespoons (30ml) soy sauce, and 1 teaspoon garlic powder to prepare the glaze. Set aside.
  3. Cut each slice of bacon in half. Wrap a piece of bacon around each water chestnut and secure with a toothpick.
  4. Place the bacon-wrapped water chestnuts on a wire rack set over the baking sheet or directly on the sheet.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven.
  6. Brush each bacon-wrapped water chestnut generously with the glaze. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the glaze is bubbly.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy them warm for the best flavor and texture!

Notes

[‘Don’t overcrowd the baking sheet to ensure even cooking.’, ‘Use thin-cut bacon for better wrapping and crisping.’, ‘Make extra glaze for dipping if desired.’, ‘Pre-soak toothpicks in water for 15 minutes to prevent burning in the oven.’, ‘Broil for the last 2-3 minutes if the bacon isn’t crisping up enough.’]
