Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: A sprinkle of flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C), and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened, with 1 cup (200g) brown sugar and 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar until light and fluffy—about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Crack in 2 large eggs (room temperature) one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk 2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Gently fold in 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips. Save a few to press onto the tops of the cookies before baking.
  7. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of dough for each cookie, roll it into a ball, and place it on the prepared baking sheets. Leave enough space between each for spreading.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers look slightly underbaked.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Enjoy warm for maximum gooeyness!
