These chocolate peppermint crinkle cookies are the perfect combination of fudgy decadence and festive flair, with their crackly tops dusted in powdered sugar, resembling a snowy winter wonderland.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Powdered sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vegetable oil until smooth and creamy. Beat in eggs one at a time, and add vanilla extract and peppermint extract. Mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until a thick, sticky dough forms. Do not overmix.
  5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Scoop out about 1 tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball. Coat each ball generously in powdered sugar.
  7. Place the powdered sugar-coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for about 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

[‘Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes to ensure the cookies hold their shape and develop the crinkle effect.’, ‘Generously coat the dough balls with powdered sugar for a dramatic crinkle appearance.’, ‘Do not overbake the cookies; they should remain soft and fudgy inside.’, ‘Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor.’]
