A quick and easy summer drink combining juicy watermelon, fresh mint, tangy lime, and a spicy Tajín kick for a refreshing and flavorful beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups watermelon cubes, seeds removed
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, packed
  • Juice of 2 medium limes (about 3 tablespoons)
  • 3 cups cold water
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons Tajín seasoning, plus extra for rimming glasses
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar or honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cube about 6 cups of watermelon, removing any seeds.
  2. Place the watermelon cubes and 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves into a blender. Add 3 cups of cold water.
  3. Blend on high for about 1 minute until smooth and slightly frothy.
  4. Pour the blended liquid through a fine mesh strainer into a large pitcher, pressing the pulp to extract as much juice as possible.
  5. Stir in the juice of 2 medium limes and 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar or honey, mixing until dissolved.
  6. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of Tajín seasoning, starting with 1 teaspoon and adjusting to taste.
  7. Refrigerate the pitcher for at least 30 minutes to chill and let flavors meld.
  8. Optional: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of each glass and dip into Tajín to coat.
  9. Serve the chilled agua fresca over ice cubes, garnished with a sprig of mint or a lime wheel.

Notes

Use ripe watermelon for best flavor. Adjust Tajín seasoning to taste to avoid overpowering the drink. Straining is optional depending on preferred texture. Fresh lime juice is recommended over bottled. Chill pitcher and glasses ahead for best serving experience. Variations include using sparkling water, swapping mint for basil or cilantro, or adding fresh jalapeño for heat.
