A rich, velvety warm fall drink made in a slow cooker with apple cider, caramel sauce, and warm spices. This ‘hug in a mug’ is easy to prepare and perfect for cozy nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 64 oz Apple Cider or Juice
  • 2 cups Thick Caramel Sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • Zest of 1 Orange

Instructions

  1. Zest the orange, ensuring no white pith is included, and set aside.
  2. Pour the cold apple cider or juice into the slow cooker insert.
  3. Add the caramel sauce to the cold cider and stir gently to break it up.
  4. Sprinkle in the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Add the vanilla extract and butter cubes, stirring to combine.
  5. Cover and set the slow cooker to HIGH for the first hour.
  6. After one hour, switch the slow cooker to LOW and simmer for 4 to 6 hours, stirring once halfway through.
  7. About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the orange zest.
  8. Ladle into mugs and serve hot, optionally topped with whipped cream or extra caramel.

Notes

Add caramel to cold cider to prevent seizing. Keep on LOW to avoid boiling, which can make the flavor flat. If using thin caramel sauce, consider reducing it on the stove first for better flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days and reheated gently on the stove.
