These spooky deviled eggs feature a creamy, savory yolk filling topped with a delicate black chocolate spider web, making them a visually stunning and delicious Halloween appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large eggs, hard-boiled and peeled
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • Ice water bath
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (preferably Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil or coconut oil
  • Black gel food coloring

Instructions

  1. Place eggs in a single layer in a pot, cover with cold water by an inch, and add vinegar. Bring to a rolling boil, then remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 12 minutes.
  2. Transfer eggs to an ice water bath and let cool completely for 5 minutes to stop cooking and aid peeling.
  3. Peel the eggs under running water if necessary, slice them in half lengthwise, and scoop out the yolks into a mixing bowl.
  4. Mash the yolks with a fork until crumbly, then mix in mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, salt, pepper, and hot sauce until smooth.
  5. Pipe or spoon the yolk mixture back into the egg whites.
  6. Melt chocolate chips with oil in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Stir in black gel food coloring.
  7. Transfer chocolate to a piping bag with a tiny snipped corner (1/16th inch).
  8. Pipe concentric circles starting from the center outward to create a web pattern on each egg.
  9. Add a tiny dot of chocolate on top as the spider’s body and let set for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use eggs that are about a week past their sell-by date for easier peeling. Ensure chocolate is thinned with oil to pipe smoothly. Chill filled eggs for 15 minutes before piping chocolate to help it set faster. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
