These crispy mummy-wrapped sausage appetizers are a fun, easy, and delicious Halloween treat. Featuring flaky puff pastry wrapped around savory smoked sausages, they are perfect for parties and kid-friendly gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Smoked sausages or Kielbasa (4-5 inches long)
  • Puff pastry sheets (thawed but cold)
  • 1 large egg (beaten with 1 tablespoon water or milk)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
  • Whole grain mustard or BBQ sauce (for dipping)
  • Butter (optional, for extra richness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pat smoked sausages dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  3. Roll out puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface to approximately 12×12 inches and 1/8 inch thickness.
  4. Cut the pastry into strips about 1 inch wide.
  5. Place a sausage at one end of a strip and wrap it around the sausage, overlapping strips to cover the sausage completely except for the tips (resembling a mummy).
  6. Arrange wrapped sausages on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving 1 inch between them.
  7. Brush the pastries generously with the egg wash.
  8. Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds. Optionally add mustard dots or olive pieces for eyes.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the pastry is puffed and deep golden brown.
  10. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving with mustard or BBQ sauce.

Notes

Keep the pastry cold to ensure flakiness. Do not wrap the pastry too tightly to allow for sausage expansion. If making ahead, refrigerate unbaked mummies for up to 24 hours. To reheat leftovers, use an oven at 350°F for 10 minutes; avoid the microwave to prevent sogginess.
