A visually stunning and savory appetizer featuring a crunchy cheddar-cracker crust topped with a piped ranch cream cheese spider web, served with fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Ritz Crackers or similar buttery crackers, crushed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, finely shredded
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened (for crust)
  • 1 packet (1 oz) dry ranch seasoning mix
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened (for dip)
  • 1/2 cup full-fat sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • Fresh vegetables: carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumber spears, bell pepper strips
  • Fresh dill sprigs or chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Crush crackers into fine crumbs using a food processor or rolling pin in a zip-top bag.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix cracker crumbs, shredded cheddar, and 8 oz softened cream cheese until it resembles wet sand.
  3. Press the cracker mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish or round platter.
  4. Chill the crust in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to set.
  5. While the crust chills, wash and cut vegetables into uniform sticks; keep them crisp in ice water if desired, then drain and dry thoroughly.
  6. In a separate bowl, beat 8 oz softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise until smooth.
  7. Add the ranch seasoning mix to the cream cheese mixture and beat until fully incorporated. Adjust consistency with milk or extra cream cheese if needed.
  8. Transfer the dip to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip (or a zip-top bag with a snipped corner).
  9. Remove the chilled crust from the fridge. Pipe a small dollop of dip in the center.
  10. Pipe concentric circles outward from the center, leaving a border of crust visible.
  11. Drag a toothpick or piping tip from the center to the edge and vice versa to create the web lines.
  12. Arrange vegetables around the outer edge of the platter in a radial pattern.
  13. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

[‘Ensure cream cheese is fully softened to avoid lumps.’, ‘Do not over-process crackers into dust; fine crumbs are best for binding.’, “Keep the platter chilled until serving to maintain the dip’s structure.”, ‘The crust and dip can be made up to 24 hours in advance and stored separately in the fridge.’, ‘Pat vegetables dry thoroughly to prevent the crust from getting soggy.’]
