Crispy Witch Finger Cheese Board - featured image

A spooky yet delicious savory snack featuring flaky, buttery phyllo dough filled with a tangy cream cheese and cheddar mixture, shaped like witch fingers with almond nails and olive eyes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly cracked
  • Whole or slivered blanched almonds (for fingernails)
  • Mini black olives, pitted and sliced (for eyes)
  • 1 teaspoon finely minced jalapeño (optional, for spice)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Thaw phyllo dough in the fridge overnight, then let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Keep covered with a damp towel to prevent drying.
  3. Melt the unsalted butter and let it cool slightly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, shredded cheddar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and optional jalapeño. Mix until smooth.
  5. Unroll phyllo dough. Place one sheet on counter, brush with melted butter, and stack a second sheet on top. Repeat to create a stack of 3-4 sheets, brushing each layer with butter.
  6. Spread about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture down the center of the dough stack, leaving a 1-inch border.
  7. Tightly roll the dough around the filling starting from the long edge, pinching the seam to seal.
  8. Gently bend the log into a slight curve to mimic a finger and tuck one end under to create a knuckle shape.
  9. Press a slivered almond into one end for the fingernail and a slice of mini olive into the side for the eye.
  10. Place witch fingers on the prepared baking sheet and brush tops lightly with melted butter.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  12. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

Keep phyllo dough covered with a damp towel while working to prevent cracking. Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature for easy spreading. For a gluten-free option, use wonton wrappers or gluten-free phyllo. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F to restore crispiness.
