A simple, forgiving slow cooker recipe that yields tender, flavorful pulled pork served on sweet slider buns with minimal active prep time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 to 4 lbs boneless pork shoulder (Boston Butt)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or white sugar
  • 12 to 15 slider buns (Hawaiian sweet rolls or brioche)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Place the pork shoulder directly into the slow cooker insert.
  2. Pour the BBQ sauce over the pork and spread it around to mostly cover the meat.
  3. Sprinkle the sugar over the top.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours or HIGH for 4-5 hours until the meat is fork-tender.
  5. Remove the pork and let it rest for 5 minutes, then shred using two forks.
  6. Slice the slider buns in half horizontally, keeping them together as a block.
  7. Brush the top cut of the buns generously with melted butter.
  8. Place the bottom layer of buns on a foil-lined baking sheet and pile the shredded pork on top.
  9. Place the top layer of buns (butter-side up) over the pork.
  10. Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 10 minutes until buns are toasted and pork is warmed through.
  11. Let cool for 2 minutes, separate into individual sliders, and serve immediately.

Notes

Do not skip the resting time for the pork to retain juices. Use tomato-based BBQ sauce for better caramelization. Store pork and buns separately in the fridge to prevent soggy buns. Pork can be frozen for up to 3 months.
