Easy One-Pan Turkey Meatball Sub Bake - featured image

A quick and comforting weeknight dinner that combines frozen turkey meatballs, marinara sauce, sub rolls, and melted cheese in a single baking dish for a crispy, cheesy meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2430 frozen or fresh turkey meatballs
  • 1.5 to 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 to 6 sub rolls or hoagie rolls, split lengthwise
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Add turkey meatballs and toss to coat.
  3. Slice sub rolls in half lengthwise and place them cut-side up in a 9×13 inch baking dish, fitting them snugly together.
  4. Spoon the sauced meatballs evenly over the rolls.
  5. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese generously over the meatballs and rolls.
  6. Brush the melted butter lightly over the tops of the rolls and cheese.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and browned, and the bread is toasted. Tent with foil if browning too quickly.
  8. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

If using fresh turkey meatballs, ensure they are fully cooked before adding to the bake to prevent sogginess. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free sub rolls. Brushing the rolls with butter is crucial for achieving a crispy texture. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen unbaked for up to 1 month.
