Fun Mummy Pigs in a Blanket - featured image

A fun and easy Halloween snack featuring cocktail sausages wrapped in flaky puff pastry with pretzel eyes and pepperoni ears, creating adorable mummy pigs that are perfect for parties and family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2436 cocktail sausages (smokies)
  • 2 (14-ounce) packages frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 small bag hard pretzels (twist or round)
  • 1 small handful mini pepperoni slices
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Mustard or ketchup for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Thaw puff pastry sheets in the refrigerator for 30-40 minutes until pliable but still cold.
  3. Roll out each sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a 12×16 inch rectangle.
  4. Cut the pastry into 1-inch wide strips.
  5. Wrap each cocktail sausage with a pastry strip, leaving the top and bottom exposed like a mummy’s face and feet. Pinch ends to seal.
  6. Cut pretzels in half and place two halves on the exposed sausage part to create eyes.
  7. Cut mini pepperoni into small triangles and place two on top of the sausage near the eyes to create ears.
  8. Brush the pastry tops with egg wash, avoiding the pretzels and pepperoni.
  9. Bake for 15-18 minutes until pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  10. Cool for 2-3 minutes before serving with mustard or ketchup.

Notes

Keep the pastry cold to ensure flaky layers. If using turkey sausages, watch closely to prevent drying out. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free puff pastry. These can be frozen raw before baking or frozen after baking for later reheating.
