Spooky Smoky Witches Brew Cocktail

Spooky Smoky Witches Brew Cocktail - featured image

A dark, smoky, and tart Halloween cocktail featuring blackberries, mezcal or bourbon, and a black salt rim, designed to look like a bubbling cauldron with optional smoke effects.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 2 oz Bourbon or Mezcal
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz honey syrup (equal parts honey and warm water)
  • Black salt (kala namak) for rimming
  • Ice (large cubes for serving, small for shaking)
  • Rosemary sprig or blackberry for garnish

Instructions

  1. Run a lemon wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and dip it into black salt to rim the glass. Set aside.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, add the blackberries and honey syrup. Muddle gently to crush the berries and release juice, but avoid making a pulp.
  3. Pour in the bourbon or mezcal and fresh lemon juice. Add a handful of ice cubes to the shaker.
  4. Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the outside is frosty cold.
  5. Strain the mixture into the prepared glass using a Hawthorne strainer (or fine-mesh strainer for fewer seeds).
  6. Add a large ice cube to the glass.
  7. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary or a blackberry on a skewer.
  8. Optional: For a smoke effect, light a sprig of rosemary, blow it out, and drape it over the glass so the smoke drifts into the drink.

Notes

Use fresh-squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor. If using frozen blackberries, let them thaw slightly. For a non-alcoholic version, substitute the spirit with blackberry juice or grape juice. The drink is best served immediately to maintain the smoke effect and temperature.
