A quick and easy Halloween treat featuring hand-popped popcorn drizzled with dark and white chocolate in a spiderweb pattern. This resourceful recipe requires minimal equipment and delivers a show-stopping visual and flavor experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2/3 cup (75g) popcorn kernels
  • 3 tablespoons (42g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 cup (170g) dark chocolate chips (60-70% cocoa)
  • 1 cup (170g) white chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or shortening
  • Optional: 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
  • Optional: 1/2 cup pretzel pieces
  • Optional: Black food coloring gel

Instructions

  1. Heat a heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add a teaspoon of oil and three kernels to test the temperature.
  2. When the test kernels pop, add the remaining 2/3 cup of kernels and oil. Cover with the lid, leaving it slightly cracked to let steam escape.
  3. Shake the pot gently every 10 seconds to prevent burning. Listen for pops to slow down to one every two seconds, then remove from heat immediately.
  4. Transfer the popped corn to a large mixing bowl and toss with melted butter and salt while hot.
  5. Place dark chocolate chips in one microwave-safe bowl and white chocolate chips in another.
  6. Microwave the chocolate in 15-second intervals, stirring vigorously after each interval, until mostly melted. Stir until smooth.
  7. If the chocolate is too thick, stir in a tiny pinch of coconut oil or shortening to help it flow.
  8. Spread the popcorn in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet or in a large shallow bowl.
  9. Drizzle the dark chocolate randomly over the popcorn.
  10. Immediately drizzle the white chocolate in the opposite direction, creating a crosshatch pattern over the dark chocolate.
  11. Using a toothpick, drag it through the chocolate in straight lines from the center outward, then from the edges inward. Rotate the tray and repeat in a circular motion to create concentric circles.
  12. Let the chocolate set for at least 10 minutes at room temperature, or 5 minutes in the fridge.
  13. Break the large clusters into bite-sized pieces and serve.

Notes

Ensure bowls and utensils are completely dry to prevent chocolate from seizing. Do not seal the pot tightly while popping to avoid soggy popcorn. For a cleaner web, work quickly and use a light touch with the toothpick. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
